About this journal
Proposed Aim and Scope: The International Journal for School Climate and Violence Prevention has two major aims: To publish original academic papers dealing with the study of K-12 school climate, social emotional and academic development, and related prosocial (e.g. character education and mental health promotion) improvement efforts that promote school safety, violence prevention, wellbeing and climates for learning that support K-12 school and life success as well as an engaged citizenry. Papers may include theoretical reflections, reports of quantitative and qualitative research, critical and integrative literature reviews and meta-analyses, discussion of methodological issues, reports of the development and validation of relevant assessment instruments, and reviews of books and evaluation instruments. In addition to classroom-level and school-level environments, the Journal also recognizes that out-of-school learning environments (afterschool programs; the home, the neighborhood and larger community) all influence learning, development and effective and sustainable school improvement efforts. Secondly, the Journal will support research, policy and/or practice conversations that further inter-disciplinary learning and practical actions that support children’s ability to learn and develop in healthy ways.
The Journal is a peer reviewed and open source. Over the next handful of years, we expect that the Observatory will become “impact rated”.
Flinders University (South Australia) is the home of the Journal. The Journal has an affiliation with the American Educational Research Association’s Special Interest Group on School Community, Climate and Culture (SC3) as well as School Effectiveness and Improvement. And the Student Wellbeing and Prevention of Violence (SWAPv) Research Center, South Australia.

About this journal
The journal is committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity in the content published. This journal has a Conflict of Interest policy in place.
Journal submissions are assigned to editors in an effort to minimize potential conflicts of interest. The following relationships between editors and authors are considered conflicts and are avoided: Current colleagues, recent colleagues, recent co-authors, and doctoral students for which editor served as committee chair. After papers are assigned, individual editors are required to inform the managing editor of any conflicts not included in the list above. In the event that none of the editors satisfy all of the conflict screens, co-editors who are least conflicted will be assigned to the manuscript. In addition, co-editors who are least conflicted are assigned for all paper submissions by sitting editors. Journal submissions are also assigned to referees to minimize conflicts of interest. After papers are assigned, referees are asked to inform the editor of any conflicts that may exist.
The journal will become a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and subscribes to its principles on how to deal with acts of misconduct thereby committing to investigate allegations of misconduct in order to ensure the integrity of research.
